SPACE 301 CAMP

A STUDENT ENRICHMENT GRANT EXPERIENCE

Each semester, the Maize Education Foundation awards Student Enrichment Grants, providing funds for students in grades 7 through 12 to help cover costs associated with enrichment activities like leadership seminars, expeditions, educational camps and more.

Ben Gorman, a sophomore at Maize South High School, received a 2019 Student Enrichment Grant to attend Space 301 Camp at Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. Gorman, whose aspirations are to be an engineer one day, tells us that this experience was valuable to him because of the opportunity to learn about space travel and aerospace engineering.

Gorman says, “A lot of what I learned at the space camp can be applied to my computer and robotics classes.” While at the camp, Ben helped build and operate underwater robots and was able to learn new techniques while helping solder the robot’s circuit board.

He’s also looking forward to bringing this experience home and putting it to work with the robotics club as they design and build their robots with the hopes of competing at the world championship again next year.
