Student Application Workshop

February 21, 2019 - Maize Middle School

The Maize Education Foundation hosted a free workshop to coach Maize middle school and high school students who plan to apply for scholarships and Student Enrichment Grants this spring.

With the help of a few volunteer coaches, a handful of students were able to discuss their grant ideas and talk through scholarship essays. The goal of the workshop was to help students better understand the questions and think of different ways to answer them.

As Maize Education Foundation Board President Brandon Brungardt said, β€œIt is our hope that we can help answer questions and provide guidance in ways that support our students and help them refine their submissions and make them more competitive.”

Though there were fewer than 10 students who took advantage of this particular opportunity, The Foundation plans to host a bigger series of workshops beginning in the fall semester to help students not only with these kinds of applications, but also to help them with resume building, college admission applications and preparing for interviews. Additionally, the Foundation will begin hosting workshops in financial literacy and soft skills for students and their families.
